How To Feel Like Yourself When Wearing a Wig

Every Tuesday, I ask my Instagram followers to send me all their questions about wigs, toppers, or anything hair-related. I have so much fun answering people’s questions as they navigate their hair loss and alternative hair journey. A few weeks back, one of my followers sent me these questions:

How do you feel like yourself when wearing a wig? How do you feel authentic?

I’m not going to lie. This can be a challenging part of wearing alternative hair. But I also believe this is part of the hair loss journey for a lot of us.

When I started pulling out more of my hair, I would look in the mirror and not really recognize myself. When I shaved my head, I would initially catch glimpses of myself in the mirror and not really know who the person was looking back at me.

I believe it goes the same when wearing hair too.

Sometimes you try on a wig and you think, “oh gosh, this doesn’t look like me at all.”

My tips for you:

Be patient with yourself.

Be kind to yourself.

This is a part of the hair loss journey.

P.S. If this is something you’re nervous about and you’re a first time hair-wear, I recommend getting a wig or topper that’s as close to your own bio hair as possible.
